Atlanta’s notorious for creating talented and successful musicians and among the highly talented lies the local indie scene. Artists like Lunar Vacation, Dinner Time, and Girlpuppy are shaping the community of music.

From Dunwoody, Lunar Vacation started in summer of 2016 as high school students. Their first release, Anna, came in June of 2017. The pool rock single helped the band make a name for themselves and they began playing local venues. Since, then they have released two EPs titled Swell and, Artificial Flavors. The band has toured frequently since, playing local and cross-country shows. The incredible songwriting capabilities from lead singer, Grace Repasky, mixed with fun riffs from guitarist, Maggie Geeslin, makes for the beautifully effortless combination that makes Lunar Vacation. Lunar Vacation also has a high reputation for the lively shows they play. I was lucky enough to see them three times this past year, and the high energy brought into the venue makes for exciting experiences. The release of their new single ”Unlucky” this past March, has cause some buzz towards a new album.

Working closely with Lunar Vacation is Dinner Time. The five piece released their first, self-titled album last year and the eight-track debut featured sounds similar to surf rock. Including a dreamy piece called, "Dream Boy,” featuring Lunar Vacation’s, Grace Repasky. Dinner Time opened for Lunar Vacation August of 2019 at Terminal West. I had the pleasure of going to their show and it was the most fun crowd and experience.

New to the scene is Becca Harvey. Known as Girlpuppy, Becca’s first single was released April of 2020 titled, "For You,” and as of now, July, it has almost 53,000 streams. Produced by Marshall Vore of Phoebe Bridgers band, the soft toned love song is truly beautiful. “Cheerleader” is the second song to come from Becca as of last week. This time sharing an emotional piece about a break up in which she just wants her dog back.

When show's begin to start up again, Atlanta is the perfect place to experience talented local artists, and fun crowds.
